New Kingsnake

mrkent Aug 24, 2009 12:38 AM

I just got my first gray-banded kingsnake yesterday. I have lots of experience with corns, and some with milks. But, I don't know how large or old a female gray-banded should be to breed. I am used to working with cornsnakes, which can often be well over 3 feet, and ready to breed when they are 2.

This one is a blairs phase, that I bought at the Portland Metro Reptile Expo (Oregon), from Dan Romanowski. He is going to email me the breeder's info, but said she is a Loma Alta. She is an '08, and a little over 2 feet in length.

Sorry for the crummy picture, but this is her.

Well,.....if she's an '08 and over two feet already, you won't have to worry any about being able to breed her next year. All you have to do is continue to keep her healthy and on a good feeding regimen, and she will do the rest if given the right conditions.

BTW, nice snake!,..and good luck with the project!

Well I don't even have a male yet. I havn't seen many GBKs at the reptile shows in the Portland, OR area.

I am not sure if I want to try to find a Loma Alta mate for her (assuming that is what she is), or if I should just look for a nice male blairs and call them generics. Any suggestions on choices and sources?

Thanks.
