2009-A clutch with Aberrant

pikiemikie Aug 24, 2009 05:38 PM

This is another aberrant thayeri (female) born this year to the same parents that produced the aberrant baby male last year(#5F -Evan Stahl to #11 M from Vivid). This looks like it may be genetic. This one is almost identical. Only 4 eggs. 1 died in egg. 3 hatched. But nice ones. Very happy. This is the 09 and clutch photo.

I think you're living right! I really like the other two from the clutch as well, especially the MSP.

Awesome Mike. Definitely looks genetic to me. If you produce any more of those next year, you might have to start selling them!

What Evan Stahl animal produced them....
I'm not questioning lineage just curious since I have a few of his bloodlines via David Weymouth....
I don't think I will be as lucky as you....

Again...WOW....

Super nice, Mike! Congratulations. The aberrant pattern is complemented very nicely by the beautiful yellow/orange ground color. If the two aberrants are not the same gender, in a few years you could do a neat experiment to see if the pattern is recessive . . .

Tom, yes, that is the plan. Let me know if anything pops out of that sibling pair you bought from me.....Thanks, Mike

Mike -- you betcha! They are growing nicely and are two of the calmest, hungriest snakes I own. I'll post pictures soon . . .

Mike,

Seeing as you got two similar aberrants, of opposite sexes, from the same pairing in consecutive years, I think its now safe to say your on to a genetic aberrancy. Very impressive. Keep up the good work!

Isn't that the norm for aberrants?

All the aberrants I have ever seen had an abscence of pattern on the ventral scales.....

Now...I've only seen enough to count on only two hands, but all of them had clean belly scales.....

Hi Mike
hey the weather is overcast and cool today, but has been real nice the last few weeks.

The patternless gene that your theyeri is showing is kind of dominant, the clear belly is key, if it was still a patternd belly or speckled you would more than likely just have an abberancy going on. the gene pulls the pattern to the top, its a bit like the cornsnake motley gene ,it will also clean the colours and reduces black.
this gene works in the 1st generation, so you could put a patternless/spotted or whatever you want to call them to a normal and get some patternless/spotted young. some are more extreme than others,ie the pattern can be pulled into dots along the back or very small circles and nothing along the sides.

Mike, definatly breed those young back to the parents, you will get some crackers hatch out.

the pictures below, the 1st one is almost the same as yours accept for colour, the 2nd pic shows a diffent one with spots along the top , you can see the belly pattern pulled to the sides as dots.
cheers.

That is very interesting Paul....

What is your take on this?
I am curious to see what this girl will produce...

Reduced patterned female....

With a nearly solid Black belly....

Mike...I am not trying to hijack this thread, but this is interesting to me....
Thanks for chiming in Paul.....

Hi John
She is very interesting, the black spotting and the pattern pulled up a bit, we have never produced anything with colour on the belly from our patternless/spotted, its alway clear, in some cases the underside of the tail has spots but never anything solid like that black on yours.

that black belly and the peach colour rising up looks more like something that we get from our imperials but thats a whole new ball game.

you could well have something different their, i would hate to suggest what you would produce but i bet her offspring will be super.

Maybe you and Mike could get together for a breeding loan , you never know something really neat could come from it.

The patternless/spotted gene works so well that we can cross a patternless thayeri to a campbelli and the pattern will pull right up in the 1st generation babys, the ratio is about 50/50 normals to patternless, the normals that we have held back have never produced patternless when bred to each other.
but a patternless to a normal will always produce more patternless.

i can only speak for what happens with our patternless, other breeders may have differnt results.

Cheers
