I'm very confused about the lavender gene. Is it a completely seperate gene from the amel-anery-etc....? Or is it like candy cane or sunglow, and just a variation of a known resessive trait? What could you breed to get lav? only het to het or homo to homo for lav? I read about them on rich's site, and whatever else I could find, but I'm still confused. Help!

Lavender is a single trait, it's not line-bred. Therefore, you can have het lavenders, breed them, and get a lavender or two in the resulting clutch.

In order to produce lavenders, you need to breed two snakes that are each carrying the lavender gene. So yes, you're stuck buying het lavs, lavs, opals, or hypo lavs if you want to play around with the lavender gene.

Now I have to buy ANOTHER! I better talk to relitives about x-mas presents, or start saving!

.....they are a kind of hypo and yet kind of anery.....and yet have no real melanins........LOL.......they are an odd gene/color snake..........kewl yet odd..........

they are a recessive gene -yes........

.........get some...mix them....have fun.........
