Turtle tubs for monitors,

moreliascom Aug 26, 2009 04:13 PM

As I have no source to get cattle troughs over here.
I was looking for alternativs and found a dealer of waterland turtle tubs.

Does anyone here use something like that for your monitors?
ackies, glauertis etc=
Im especially thinking of the new very large tub 8 x 4 x 3 or so. with a resoirvare at one end for turtles too lay eggs in so I tough using that part for egglaying area and the water area for living area.

Fill the living area with corc tubs and basking spots.

So monitor breeders out there, does that sound stupid to use these?
pix can be seen here http://www.waterlandtubs.com/Products.html

I think it could be made to work. One concern is that soil is so heavy, it may deform the shape and/or strength of the tubs, so I would consider building a box around it to support the sides and shape.

Robyn,

Thanks for you reply.

I was thinking of haveing less soil in the "water" area, maybe just a fee issues. And rather fill that area with cork tubes and several basking spots.

This is to get the monitors to lay eggs in the deep substrat resoirvar that the tubs are designd for. In the dry end of the cage, where turles are meant to lay eggs.

I have a couple that I made but they are only used as raise up cages. I used the medium land tub and both have about 800bs of dirt in them. I used to use them for breeding uromastyx so I had to add a couple extra legs to support the weight of all that dirt. There are some design errors, but they do the job for what I need them to. I will try to post a couple of pics.
