I have a young adult female Blue... She's about 2 1/2ft--She's only got 3-legs, but someone didn't secure the top on her cage, and she climbed the branch and managed to escape.
Well, I wasn't home, and the only person who was home was mom--- She threw a big laundry basket over her and set a heavy tub of books on top of it so she couldn't lift it up and get out-- well...The laundry basket had holes just big enough for her to fit her snout through, and she tried to get out, and ended up scraping the skin off the left side of her mouth. It's not too bad, but I was wondering what I should put on it.
We'll make sure it doesn't happen again.
Anyhow--I let her out of her cage a lot to roam around--She always seem to hide though. And when I go to get her after she's been out for a while, she's a complete spaze--She's shoot across the floor, and whip around--and hiss--Hasn't EVER tried to bite. The thing is--She's very tame when I get her of her cage, and just carry her around. She'll let me play with her face, she'll sit on me, she has even fallen asleep on me--When I took her to a reptile show she sat on my sholder the whole time, didn't mind people touching her, and everyone told me they had never seen such a tame tegu. She's a sweetheart, but she turns into a demon when she's roaming around--Could this be because she knows she's going back in the cage--And doesn't want to?
Also--- Should I feed her in the cage or out of the cage--- I have fed her both inside and outside the cage. It seems like she does better when I feed her outside, because I noticed that a lot of times when I go inside the cage to get her, I always have to feed her before I bring her out, because she "expects" food now everytime the lid comes off--But i'm affraid if I feed her out of the cage, she's going to expect food while she's out and about and it's going to be the same thing...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
