Making a rack advice

bomboras Aug 26, 2009 09:07 PM

Hey, i was in need of a rack and decided to build my own. I've never built anything from scratch, especially a rack so just looking for any sort of tips or advice. I found this website which seemed to have a pretty decent rack that was easy and cheap to build. Originally I was going to build a melamine shelf rack but I like this style. http://northeastsnakes.com/available/v/gallery/rack/

So if anyone has any advice or comments to share it would really be appreciated. Thanks a lot

His rack design is great because the materials are easily obtainable. The only costly part is the plastic material for the shelves.

I like what he did on the 41qt shelves with plastic above and below. That is how I did it on a small rack I made once. I put a heat pad "inside" each shelf so the box didn't slide over it.

If desired, you could place a heat pad under each shelf. I recommend Ultratherm for this purpose (6x11 for most colubrids, 11x11 for boids) but any heat pad can work.
