Okay, I'm awake! Here's some shots from the Arizona trip, most of these are from the Santa Rita Mts. and the Pajaritos. an Arizona blacktail rattler, an Arizona Desert king and a Banded sand snake.

Wow! Those toads are awesome! Especially that Sonoran Desert toad

That gopher snake smiles for the camera just like most of the bulls in my area.

Great pics! All of them!

you will have a blast whether it is your first trip or 50th! I already wish I was back, it rained quite a bit the last night I was there, I should have hung in for one more night out.

Looks like you had an awesome trip, Todd. Pity about the DOR Whipsnake. Aren't the AZ Blacktails beautiful? The few I've encountered are very docile. Great finds, great post!

I did have a great trip, thanks. Yep, I was able to see a live one from afar, basking on a rock, took the shot, snuck up and around, poof! no whipsnake, lol! Yes, the blacktails are probably the most beautiful I have seen, if Texas has the silver, Arizona has the gold! They were incredibly docile, I never heard one of the three I saw buzz at all!

Very nice finds. I like that first king. I think its an intergrade with californiae.

-----

antelope Aug 31, 2009 12:05 PM

Thanks! I had hoped to specifically find some intergrades.

antelope Sep 04, 2009 01:33 AM

Ross yes the first one I posted is definitely an intergrade, something I was hoping to find. I am not like most people in that the intergrades interest me just as much if not more than the actual subspecies.

You lucky dog!

Thanks Matthew, looks like I'll be stuck down here (Corpus) for a while now, fun is all over, dang it! You should come down here in the winter to herp, that's the best time for me around here.

I might just do that! After New Years anyway, my work prohibits vacations during the holidays. Anyway, aside from basking turtles & Texas Spiny lizards I'm not seeing much herp activity. The drought is creeping north from the Edwards hill country again. Its dry.. my creek is drying up & we NEED rain!

Holy cow! I'm sorry I complained Lord, please let up on the rain, or send it to Austin & points south. 13 inches certainly ends the drought! Gotta go find some frogs! LOL
