thegeckobarn Sep 16, 2003 10:59 AM

My baby stripe has a blue belly...not just spots, it is completely blue.
Is this bad?? She is not housed with any other geckos.

Thanx,

Ok..thanx for the info.
I have some panacur, but it undiluted.
Is it safe to give them all a little lick? If so, how often?
Also..they have NOT been fed crickets at all, just mealworms, and they havent been exposed to other leos, except the ones that I hatched. So I really wouldnt expect parasites or worms, unless there is another way they can get them.
Anyway, reply to what I need to do, I have the panacur, but need directions.

Thanx bunches,
Crystal Light

Ps..she is gaining weight just fine??

Yes, the belly does..except its on the bottom.
Ok, hopefully somone can help me about the panacur, b/c im not sure either, I dont want to hurt them.
I have flagyl..but afraid to use it b/c I dont know the correct dosages.
Anyone know how much it would cost to get a fecal and treatment for worms/parasites? Or can I treat this at home if it is worms or parasites? Sorry for all of the questions, but ive never had one with parasites before, except for one possible who died, but she wasnt exposed to any of the other geckos.

Thanx!

Hi Crystal,

I've actually had a couple of my geckos have blue on their bellies as well... I was really worried, then thought to myself, "what if its poop"... Turns out it was, once the animals went to the bathroom the black area was gone. I just think the feces inside the babies is more visible, then it would be in the adults... Maybe because of the thinner skin??? I dont know if thats whats going on with your leopard, but it could be. Look at the belly as soon as it goes potty... Also, I wouldn't be leaning towards parasites, mainly because the baby is one you hatched out and he hasn't been eating crix either. I could be wrong, but the absence of crickets and the fact that she/he's only been with other hatchlings that you've hatched would kind of rule out parasites in my eyes... Keep us posted.

I also have this problem, my newest gecko also have a blue on his belly, I just bought him, he ate the first week but now two weeks after i bought him he doesn't eat, and he is gettin' thinner! very worried! what should I do?

hello how old is yours? if its a baby i agree with ragnew, that is just poop .how does his poop look? is it runny? does it look like the albino? if so try and get a poop sample and take it to the vets and they can give you the right medicine for whars going on. when mine was sick her belly swelled up alot and they took a sample of what was in her belly and all it showed was internal bleeding she didnt see any signs of anything else. but a while later when she got alot worse her tongueand body was pail had no color. i was about to give up and put her to sleep , but she left me a poop sample and i could see the worms in it!! yuk!! anyway i had to give her several doses of panacur an she is now about 95 % better just needs to gain some weight!! so i suggest take a fecal sample to the vets to find out for sure . it could be several things good luck and keep us posted!! tanya

No, its not like that, its on the bottom half of her belly, and there is no red spots.
Also, she pooped today, and she pooped whole mealworms. So I am going to up her temps from about 82 to about 88-89 to see what happens. The blue is still there after she pooped.

We'll see how it goes.
And ill keep you posted,

Thanx,
Crystal
