For years I have used heavy ceramic bowls of appropriate size for each snake. They are easy to clean and their weight helps prevent tipping them over. Bill

Plastic can harbor all sorts of bacteria, I know with my dogs (boxers) they used to get blisters (staff) around their lips when we used plastic, since switching to stainless we have not had any issues in years.

As for the boas I only use ceramic bowls, like mentioned before they are easy to clean and usually heavy enough not to be tipped.

After trying different materials out for years, I have settled on metal (stainless steel) and/or ceramic.

Metal and ceramic clean much better and do not sustain bacteria as much as plastic does given the same environmental conditions.

For small snakes, I use the stainless steel bowls made for cats or toy dogs. These water bowls are lightweight and last forever.
