>>You know how they used to think blairs and alternas were two different species? How many species did they think thayeri were?

>>Amazing!
The Thayeri story is VERY similar to Alterna.
There are two distinct phases. One being the Leonis phase (similar to the alterna phase in graybands). The other phase being Milk Snake Phase or MSP (similar to the blairs phase in graybands). Both hatched from one single collected female.....
And there is one single recessive morph. It is the melanistic thayeri (solid black).....
And yes...When these hatch out you will get MSP and Leonis hatchlings in one clutch....Some have been line bred for one or the other...but even then all leonis siblings in one clutch are different from each other....Same goes for most MSPs.....
Here's a couple pics of some past clutches I've hatched out....
Talk about Variability.....These have it in their blood....

The other side of the story is this....Back in the 70s when our wild bloodlines were collected many thought Greeri and Mex Mex and Thayeri were all phases of the same snake.....Ruthveni were thought to be Jalisco milksnake variations....
I think we got it figured out now....But there are so many "inbetweeners" still in the Mexico wild....The Mexicana complex has much to be discovered still.
