Man!,...ya' know,..it's funny you mentioned the "black" phase. I am totally aware of these being part of their natural phenotype variation, but I just don't see many of them around at all. I don't get over to the "mexicana" forum too often though, so do you see very many over there?,...or are they rarely seen there as well?

Ya' see some examples in books only from time to time, but certainly not in the hobby much.

thanks, ~Doug

Actually Doug most of the Mex Mex we see in the trade are the grey/silver ground colored specimens with nice red saddles...These are typical to the Mexicana found in Valle de los Fantasmas, Mexico....
I do know a few (I mean a FEW) people working with the Black Phase Mex Mex in the hobby....We can thank a Mr. Lloyd Lemke for having these 'different' looking Mex Mex in our hobby.....

Mark,
I think we will see a rise in popularity over the next few years...
There are a lot of phases/variations that have not been crossed yet....
Granite
Solid Speckled
Black
Brown & Burgundy
Hypoerythristic

Soon we shall see a Black Mex Mex with salmon/pink saddles....
Or a Black Granite with pink saddles....
Stay Tuned.....

Awesome looking snake you have, John! The whole mexicana complex is just fascinating with all the variability.

Thanks Mike.....It wouldn't be a complete Mex Mex collection with out a couple Speckled/Granite Phases and a couple Black Phases...
But I think I got that covered....
I can't wait to see what emerges from their eggs next year.....
