Thermostat for multiple enclosures

chrisv Sep 01, 2009 04:30 PM

Hello,

I recently moved to new england and live in a miserably drafty house with no temperature uniformity at all!

While temp control was less of an issue in warmer climates, i am now interested in keeping 3 chondros in separate enclosures. They will be in a stacked system. There is a significant vertical temp gradient in my house and the top cage will need to have separate temp control from the bottom etc.

There MUST be a multichannel thermostat that i can use to control several heating devices with several probes. (with an night drop pretty please?!) Worse case scenario I can use a computer with temp probes and x10 controllers...but there MUST be an easier way. I must be missing something. I'm not interested in buying 3 parallel systems to control this unless its honestly the cheapest method.

what do you guys use?

I use primarily Barrs cages and have the same ssp. in the same cages at the same elevation. I use a HerpstatND on a power strip and have one cage as a "control". I've done this for years and have noticed almost complete uniformity between the cages. The control cage regulates the other 2-3 plugged into the same strip. All are heated by 45 watt panels.

I use a similar set-up on other cages w/ssp. that have different needs, etc. and it works fine. If there are elevation differences I merely calibrate the "control" cage to where I want it all the rest follow suit.
