I have no clue! They look like jellyfish. I found thousands of them in one of my old frog ponds

Dan,
Those look to be freshwater jellyfish (Craspedacusta sowerbyi). They are found worldwide and in the U.S. in scattered populations. They have not however, been reported from Montana so I would let someone at the nearest University know. Thanks, Mike Collalto

' Yep. Freshwater jellyfish is pretty close. Free swimming hydra in their reproductive phase..
