Here are a few pics from a day trip last Saturday. The weather was great, and my sister came along who probably hasn’t caught a snake in 10 years.

The Northern Pacific rattlers were out in full force. We saw two Alligator Lizards that got away from us; my hand is in a cast for another two weeks, so anything faster than a NorPac is difficult to get a shot of. Surprisingly not a single gopher snake that day.

If you have the bandwidth for video, I love this NorPac’s lateral motion. Doesn’t seem in a hurry to get away, just keeps her eyes on me the whole time.

Andy, I've got a friend in white salmon, WA i'd like to send a pic or two of the rattlers. but he's got a dial-up connection and the pix you posted are pretty big. any chance you could post a smaller-res pic or two, or email one or two to me and I'd resize 'em? thanks. btw, were you anywhere near white salmon? it's on the river.

Hey man,

Admittedly, I had to look up where White Salmon is located. It’s quite a bit farther South from where we were. I took these pics at a spot that’s about half an hour outside of Ellensburg.

I can email the files to you if you need, but the pics on the website aren’t protected. You should be able to just right-click on a picture (or Ctrl + click if using a Mac) and select “Save As.” Then you’d be able to re-size and send to your buddy. Or you can just tell him: “Patience is a virtue my friend.” Haha, kidding.

Andy,
The rattlesnakes in your area are the coolest! I need to get over there for some herping next spring

Hey Dan,

Glad you liked the photos. Shoot me an email if you decide to make the drive out here next year. It’s: alheatherington@gmail.com

What I'd really like to find next is a place with some large gophers. I haven't found a single one longer than 4-4.5ft. in Washington state.
