Bass Lake Zonata

bmac Sep 04, 2009 12:24 AM

I was board so I thought I'd post some old photos. All of these are wild caught animals from Bass Lake.

My photography is subpar but since there is so much hype when it comes to this local I thought I'd let you guys know that they are normal looking Z's

By the way not one of them were collected.
Thanks!!
Bobby

Hi Bob,

not sure what you meant by "My photography is subpar but since there is so much hype when it comes to this local I thought I'd let you guys know that they are normal looking Z's". Is there an ab-normal looking z?? And there's not alot of hype with Bass Lakes either -- there are far more desired localities of multicincta out there.

As with any "locality", there are nicer ones as well as ones that arent so nice (as depicted in your photos). Most people prefer animals with greater amounts of overall confluency (meaning complete red rings), but the reality is all will not be that way. Bass Lake, being one of MANY locales in the Sierra-Nevadas, has seemingly turned out more multicincta over the years, therefore lending to more time and abundancy to "refine" them through selective/captive breeding. Nothing more, nothing less.

But thanks for the heads up anyway...

L. zonata multicincta

Jkruse,

I suppose your right there isn't much "hype" when it come to this local. But, I mean even you posted below that particular locality below this thread. I just meant it gets more attention than it deserves. That's all...
Also every year that I go up there it gets more and more trashed. One year I found two Z's under one rock, the next year that rock was broke in half and I have not found a Z under it since then.
Here they are...

And i think the Z's at Bass are a whole lot prettier than the ones found near Shaver Lake. Both places were hit pretty hard by unscrupulous collectors. I always wish to find them in the act. I would probably hide out whwre they can't see me and then call the local F&G warden.
