Red Phase and Yellow Phase Northerns?

RichH Sep 04, 2009 10:33 AM

Yeah, I know. Why all the pine pic requests? I do it every 3-4 years. I like to see what people are working with. So many new to this hobby every year. Never know what will be brought to the table.

Last two posts have brought forth some nice pics of some fine herps. These two color phases are to me at least very rare.

I recall seeing red phase northerns many years ago. They were very large snakes, some with a brick red ground color. There were also yellow phase I was very fortunate to see that were bred by a guy in Long Island, NY over half my life ago. Spectacular.

I unfortunately have not been privy with seeing any yellow pines since. I have come across a few reds but most are not quite what I came across in the past. Still impressive but a bit different.

Anyone have more info. and pics of such? These seem to have become very rare in my view. Either that or I've been out of communicating for too long.

Thanks

Here are a couple of mine for you. Red-phase female and a yellow-phase male. Their colors are far more stunning than I am able to capture with my very poor camera skills. I have seven eggs from this pairing waiting to hatch out still....perhaps in a few days. I hope you enjoy them.

Brian, I enjoy all Pine pics. Hope you keep them coming when the hatchlings appear. Be ineterested in seeing how they turn out. Thanks for sharing.

Rich,
Here are a few photos of the eggs. You can see how swollen they are now, only a few more days hopefully!

PS----The bullet is a 9mm hollow point (~1 inch) for size reference. The hatchlings should be little monsters.

Wow! those are nice. I had picked what I thought were Reds last year that ended being a cross. I was so upset with myself I definitely won't let that happen again.

Research, research, research. Still though it can happen

I have that pine pic etched in my brain. Were you fortunate enough to breed him before his demise?
