Ring Pythons...........

APLAXAR Sep 05, 2009 08:20 AM

have they lost popularity at all? I have had one at my store for a while an no one even glances at it, i think they are super cool, but i cant tell if the interest is still with them at all, and it could just be that they arent coveted here. I did see the cycle post below and it was really cool, thanks for sharing that.

I think they're gorgeous, and would love to get a pair of ringeds like the ones Tom Keogan produces, which keep their brassy bands into adulthood. In a pet shop environment, though, you're probably seeing a lot of folks who don't know thing one about them, and are saying to themselves "_THAT_ much money for a little orange & black snake? Here, Jimmy - take a look at these milksnakes, they're just as colorful . . ."

Just the personal opinion of one guy with a few snakes. YMMV.

i agree that alot of times people dont know what they are looking at, but we used to sell them on a somewhat regular basis too. Just curious what you all thought, i know they are cool (thats why i brought one in obviously), and we try to keep high end herps along with the bread and butter stuff too. thanks for your input, i appreciate it

Tom's got some babies that aren't even ringed, but they're super cool looking.

They are really one of the coolest pythons out there. But you can't give people taste.

I think the Recession is more a factor here than loss of interest. If I had the cash, I'd snap any one up in a heartbeat..
But unfortunately, we have to watch the budget these days.

Sincerely,
Matthew

I always thought they lost thier rings as adults?

They tend to lose their bright orange color, which becomes a greenish brownish hue instead. Their rings, however, remain intact though they may become more difficult to see against their darker adult colors.
