I am outraged!

chloee1 Sep 05, 2009 05:19 PM

I have recently been introduced to the wonderful world of reptiles. I love my 4 boas and my Argentine B&W Tegu. I could not imagine ever seeing them in harm or putting them in that situation. I say this because this morning I went outside and found a full grown ball python slithering down the sidewalk. Luckily I found it and not a psycho that would kill it or turn it in (to be killed), but who the hell would let go of a snake in CLEVELAND OHIO (where even in the summer it gets 40 degrees at night!).

I am wondering what I should do with it now. I am going to keep it and take great care of it, however, what are signs that they could be ill? Any help/advice would be great.

Thanks everyone,
Tom

lets hope that it is an escapee and not a release.

id take it to a vet and then make a nice warm home fit it.

I'd be happy! Well I'd be outraged at the snake's situation, but you should be thrilled! Free Ball Pythons? Tell me where haha! Definitely take it to a herp vet. And get a nice setup going asap. Who knows how long it has been outside, make sure to offer it water as well.

My wife just had a coworker bring her a ball python that he had found in his backyard. In a way, I hope that it escaped rather turned loose...at least it and your snake didn't get hit by a car or found by a "the only good snake is a dead snake" kinda person.

QUARANTINE!

The first and most important thing you can do is quarantine it from your other animals to make sure its not carrying a disease or mites or something. Aside from that enjoy your new pet.

Yes, I am quarantining her as of now. She is in a 20W X 39L X 61/2D sterelite container with a water bowl (that she already emptied, actually, inhaled). I have a heat pad underneath it and she looked pretty happy.
Good thing someone else didn't find her and call the local news. Thats all we need, more bad publicity.

Thanks for all the replies,
Tom

If you can, please post a pic. I would keep her unless you absolutely do not or cant not. Ball Pythons are very gentle and wonderful snakes. You can buy or create many, many colors and variations. Some are picky eaters, but this can be overcome or eliminated if you know how to deal with snakes.

I vote to keep her unless the owner honestly lost her. You should look for signs on telephone poles or an ad in lost and found. It would suck if someone's beloved pet. accidentally got out. Honest mistakes happen.

Keep us posted and please post a picture if you can.
