I know what it is supposed to be (right clicked the pic), but I just don't see it. The few anery pics I've seen make them look way more gray than that. Maybe if it were next to a normal?

Thats part of why i want other opinions, I pick him up next weekend I'll know for sure then, and for what I'm paying for him and some other animals I don't care what he turns out to be.

I like the green and imagine it looks even better in person..

LIRepman76 Sep 06, 2009 07:53 AM

Aneries and greens have to be the toughest to get a hood picture if to show color. Good thing your picking them up in person. Is it a reputable person that your getting them from?

I'm working at the Anaheim NARBC show this weekend. Friday evening after setup I cruised the tables and got a chance to check out an adult anery. I wasn't sure at first, really had to strain my eyes because what my eyes were telling me is very dark green. Then I put him under a light and had no problem seeing that he was an anery. Based on that experience I would say that your pic if of an anery. As long as the seller is reputable and backs his genetics then I would not worry. I really wish they looked more silver and black like my axanthic balls. Really makes me wonder if I'll like the ghost or be disappointed after all the work and time.
Keep us posted.

I have seen very nice axanthics from silver to black and silver. I have also seen several that were a bit brownish, but all had black and white ventral scales. Troy Rexroth has some nice ones and has even documented the color changes they undergo with age.

Personally to me, from that picture, it really doesn't look like an axanthic. But pictures can be totally deceiving depending on the lighting and the coloring of the floor can also be causing it to look more brown than it is in person. I agree completely with what Kevin states here:

I have seen very nice axanthics from silver to black and silver. I have also seen several that were a bit brownish, but all had black and white ventral scales.

The ventral scales will be your ultimate indicator if it's a pure axanthic. Of course it needs to have a checkered belly to do this, some hogs have completely black bellies which obviously will not work for determining this. If you see any yellow on the ventrals, then it is definitely not an axanthic.

Troy Rexroth has some nice ones and has even documented the color changes they undergo with age.

Thanks Kevin!

Yes, I started a thread here that documents the first year I had my axanthics and the wonderful color changes they went through. It was my male that exhibited a high level of brown which diminished after a few sheds.

Here's one of the latest pictures I took of them. It's very interesting to see how different they are in coloration. The female I bought from BHB and the male from Jeff Nemanius.

whell i got some phone pics of this snakes belly and it is void of any color clearing up i my mind that he is an anery, unfortunately someone bought it out from under me for substantially more than i could have payed, but on the bright side i was given a trio of his babys from this year. as a gesture of good faith. so in a few years hope fully il have some anerys of my own to complement my albinos.
