How do you all feed your monitors?

Ppk Sep 16, 2003 03:44 PM

I was just wondering if I should feed my sav a thawed mouse every day instead of every other day. In those days in between I like to give him turkey, chicken, beef, roast beef etc. I would like to know who feeds their monitor mice every day. I am wondering if I should do that too, or is what I am doing now fine? I like feeding him every day since b/c of it he has grown 8 inches in 2 and a half months.

Well my WT eats very few mice, and only accually gets them about once a month. Inbetween times she gets a very complex diet of insects, chicken, eggs, baby chicks, fish, and very little greens. (Only when we can trick her into eating them.)
I think you are doing fine as long as your monitor is happy.

I feed my 8 month old albig girl everyday. I feed her mainly rodents. Maybe 4 or 5 med. rats a week. Then I like to spice it up for her, here and there. Usually with chick peeps,a few in one sitting, 1 wk old quail etc. I do this on weekends. Every now and then I throw her a guinea, some fish(I feed good stuff from the supermarket, usually tilapio)and one egg. This is done about once a month. She really digs that stuff. Once a month I buy 4 or 5 live mice and throw em in there just to give her a little fun.

Also I give her raw turkey as well about every 10 days. But keep it about 90% Rodents. Worms and crickets dusted are welcome all the time as well. Best of luck!

I feed my waters just about daily. also, i stopped feeding meat by products a while ago, since it was safer and more nutritious to feed thawed frozen rodents. my waters range from 3.5- 5.5 feet, only one is fed mice (3.5 foot cumingi), the rest handle small or medium rats well. i feed most from food bowls, one will take from my tongs, another will take the food, the tongs and my right arm if im not fast. my best feeding water is my oldest sulfur. she is known to go "airborne", leaping up onto the doorway to take from the tongs. heres a pic of her and my friend gregg m. -john a

Hmm, interesting. He just finished the last of his mice. I am not buying frozen mice from the Pet Store anymore. Its $12 for a pack of six and plus, they are only 2 inches long! It isnt fullfilling anymore. It used to be in June but now he is 20"! So, I ordered from Rodent Pro last night, a pack of 50 for $23.50, you cant go wrong, and they are bigger, I ordered large adults at 2.5-3 inches. I feed him mice every other day. I have been giving him meat produce in those days in between since June as well and he has grown over 8 inches since then. Ok, so I found a new rodent provider and changed his size of mice, next is I have to build him a 6x3x3 enclosure this weekend...
