epileptic anole

regan Sep 16, 2003 03:49 PM

Please help me. I recently took in a stray anole who seems very fit and healthy but then hell occasionally go into pretty violent convulsions. is this a harmless defense mechanism for when he feels threatened or could it be some kind of parasite?

I need more information to answer your question. Describe the actions that occurs when your anole goes into violent convulsions.

Well, pretty standard siezing - writhing around and squirming on the floor of the aquarium often on its back for a moment and then itll just lie there on its back for a moment and then itll just hop back up on its rock as if all is well. It really seems to ham it up if and when i have to go into the aquarium to clean it or whatever as if stress or feeling threatened encourages the siezures.

Damn, that is odd. It's likely neurological, obviously, but I wonder why there is more seizing when you put your hand in.

Do you have a herp vet? Maybe you won't take an anole in, but it's possible a quick phone call could help you figure this out. I really hope you do! I have to feel bad for anything having seizures for whatever reason and there are various reasons that herpetiles sometimes have them. I think it's really a matter for a vet, though. Good luck.
