First RTB in 30 years,,,

bakeaway Sep 07, 2009 10:54 PM

I keep mostly kings and pits and am usually in that forum. Also, have a couple pythons. I have not kept a RTB since I was in high school. So, I made sure I had it all correct but wanted to ask,,,,
Day temp in basking light is 90,,,on the other side with a UTH it is 83. At night the UTH is set for 78. I have part if the enclosure covered for humidity. The UTH is on thermostat, and the daytime lamp is on timer with rheostat....
Sounds right?
Thanks

If anything you could hold everything a bit cooler with a cool end temp around 80 and the warm end around 87 degrees or so. You want your Boa to move back and forth preferably making him thermoregulate a bit. I think you will find that, except when gravid, a Boa will seldom park in a place where it's 87 degrees or warmer.

By the way... welcome home young man. Welcome home!

thanks,,i was just making sure,,,i read some say they need a basking spot,,some say not,,,some say UTH only,,and all had slightly diff temps...should i get rid of the light for the warm end and use a UTH there also or a ceramic heater?

,when i had mine when i was young,,i didn't even have heat. it just stayed at room temp in our house. now i think how bad that was. but i did have it for 7 years..
i am sure it could have lived longer with the right husbandry,,,,

No lamps or ceramic requited. Heat panels not necessary either. Good for arboreals.
I agree, cooler is better. Moisture/humidity is more important than light or upper heat source. They take moisture out.
