Is this belly rot or what?

kangaskritters Sep 07, 2009 11:38 PM

I was cleaning my cages today and found one of my females with a bloody, swollen belly. I have pics, but not sure how to post them. She has been soaking a lot lately. Her cage is clean and dry with appropriate temps, etc. She's still eating and is otherwise alert and active. She's kept in a CB70 Freedom Breeder. Am I describing belly rot or something else? Is there a home remedy I can use to avoid a vet bill? I'd be happy to send pics to someone to help me.
Thanks!

Hey guys

If you can upload the pics to photobucket -- then under the picture, there will be a series of codes- I think its the 3rd one down- the IMG link, Copy/Paste that into a post here-- and the pic will show up.
Or if you send me the pics- I can post them for you.

Sounds a little like belly rot though. I've had a few with it. One was kept in a really wet cage- the water I guess was constantly getting dumped over, and left for weeks before being cleaned, and the snakes belly was red but the red was under the belly scales- not blood coming out of the snake and leaving blood in the cage but the white belly scales appeared to be stained red.
For that case, a dry enclosure cleared it up in a few sheds.

It could be a burn too, but will be easier to tell once we can see the pictures.

Since I don't know how to upload pics on the forums I emailed the pics to my herp vet and this was his response...

This is a bacterial scut infection. Requires injectable antibiotics for a few weeks and topical treatment.
No home treatment will work.

I wish uploading pics on the forums was as easy as the classified section.
