A few questions about plants and lizards

Hefe Sep 16, 2003 04:38 PM

Hi, I am setting up a natural 40 gal breeder tank for my 4 girls. I bought a few plants, aloe, and two assorted non spiney suculants. They are in pots now. I dont want the pots to show and I dont want to plant the plants directly into the substrate (vita sand). Any suggestions? I thought about trying to hide the pots with a vine or something. Only the top few inches of the pots will stick out if I push them down well in the sand.

Also, I feel the urge to get another lizard. What were the second lizards everyone got after leos? Im thinking of either cresteds or AFTs, or maybe something else.

Thanks for reading this!

Steve

Hello =)
To hide the pot, you can try stacking up pieces of rock and slate around it. Thats what I did when i put a little potted succulent in my bearded dragon cage. The rocks hid the pot very well, although the poor plant didnt last very long... my beardie decided it would be awesome to body slam it (literally,lol) and he crushed the poor thing to no return :P But give the rocks and slate a try =)

My second lizard after leos was my beardie. I wanted something that got a little bigger. But i just got a little baby crested gecko a few weeks ago, and they rock. Such adorable little guys! Definately go with a crested! hehe. But AFT are real cool too. The care is very close to that of a leo though, so if you wanna go with a lil somethin different go with the crested. good luck!

I second that! Cresteds are absolutely awesome, and they don't require extensive care conditions like some other lizards. They are cute and have a great personality too! Mine will sit in my hand and lick babyfood off of my fingers. They come in many colors/morphs just like leopard geckos. I've attached a picture of one of my dark fire morphs so you can see what they look like. Check out the Rhac forum here on Kingsnake for more info.

Aww, cute crested! He looks almost exactly like mine Only mine has more darker of red. I'll have to get a good pic of him one of these days.

I second that, I love my crested. Mine is an orange with a yellow stripe down it's back and a white spot on his tail. He also has big blue eyes, and is so little. I also found that Ocelot (Pictus) geckos are an interesting choice, and are fairly easy to care for. If you are looking for a more intermediate lizard, try a veiled chameleon. Definately the most interesting as far as habits go in my collection.
