Help with recent litter?

BOASnRUGBY Sep 09, 2009 02:24 PM

My 7 1/2 ft het albino female dropped 3 slugs and 1 deformed albino that died an hour later. Last year she dropped 13 slugs, 8 hets and 5 albinos. A number of factors have improved the likelyhood of her producing a healthy litter: I have a better heat system in place (RHP instead of flexwatt), I left the male in with her up until 5 weeks prior to her drop, she is about half a foot longer and a couple lbs heavier than last year.
It's been 2 weeks since the slugs came out, is there any chance she has babies still in her? When would they drop? What happens if she doesn't drop? Any advice or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks,
Branden

the short versions...

it could be the "some" came out pre-maturely because she had a mild contraction (this happened to me with my first litter, a premmie baby came 3 weeks before the actual litter).

It may have actaully been a "dud" litter (which I don't think the is the case due to her only throw a couple slugs.) Is she still "big & swellen"?

Or it may be thats she's "Impacted" with the rest of the slugs.

Is she acting normal? eating? Keep an eye on her for a couple days to make sure nothings "wrong".

if 2-3 more weeks go by with no action...I'd seek the help of a vet.

Hope this helps you a bit-

She's still pretty big, though she has slimmed down a bit from a couple weeks ago. Probably since she has refused food since March. I haven't attempted to feed her in the past 2 months, pretty much just left her be. she is quite active, more so than usual. if i even walk in the room she'll poke her head out of one of the hides within a couple of minutes. she broke one of the legs off of her platform that doubles as a hide and has made a real mess of the aspen and newspaper bedding. Should I try to feed her a small meal? Or should I just leave her alone for a couple more weeks?

Has she shed yet?

Normally after a boa gives birth, they shed. If your boa hasn't started a shed cycle yet, then maybe she's not finished giving birth.

If you plan on breeding her again. You might want to have a vet check her out. Just take an X-ray or ultra sound. Just in case she's retained anything from this last birth.

she hasn't shed or gone into blue yet. She did upend her water dish last night. I got a good look at her yesterday too and she didn't look nearly as swelled up as a couple weeks ago. I know that the way she keeps trashing her cage is a sign that she's ready to drop, but she just looks so slim compared to the days before the 3 slugs and 1 premie came out. I'm definately not going to breed her next year, time off will do her good.

She still hasnt dropped the rest yet. left a meal (thawed) in with her overnight. she showed interest in it but did not strike or eat it. She still hasn't shed yet or even gone in the blue. Good sign?
