PARACITES?

ilovemyleo Sep 16, 2003 05:35 PM

What are the symptoms for paracites? My mature male leo has slowed to eating one large canned cricket evey 3 days and his poops are regular but very small. Could he have paracites?

ONE large cricket every every 3 days? That doesnt sound like enough at all. He COULD have parasites, but a more common mistake is caging, heating, ect. What are the temps? Make sure one side of the tank is 88-90, with a ground temp of the same. Make sure your supplementing with calcium and vitimins, aswell to ensure he doesnt get MBD. Sounds like your temps arent hot enough or hes getting sick of crickets. By the way, have you try live crickets? That may be way hes not eating them. Try LIVE food, if you dont want to deal with live bugs then dont get an animal that eats them. Sorry, but by the sounds of your post you dont know what your doing. Are you supplementing the dead crix? Theres many possibilities as why hes not eating. I suggest you get your leo to vet if he continues going this way. At one cricket every three days, he'll start losing weight if he hasnt already. Dont meen to sound harse, but i recomend you READ about leos.

First, the temperatures in his tank are fine and are stable. Second, he was raised on canned crickets and so he continues to eat them as well as live crickets, meal worms, super worms and a pinkie from time to time. Thirdly, my library on leos is probably more extensive then any pet store or reptile owner. The only vet where I live that has extensive reptile experience is on holliday for many weeks and I don't trust any other vet in town with my little guy. I have made an appointment with a vet outside of town but that is in a few days. I have read all my books as well as talked to other owners and vets about my leo and all have different views as to whats wrong. I thought it would be nice to get other opinions on the issue.

Hi...

I had a gecko who had paracites... symptoms? it completely stopped eating, it had the runs, it threw up and lost a drastic amount of weight in a short amount of time. does yours have paracites? it doesn't seem like it from what you've described, but can't say for sure, but it wouldn't hurt to get a fecal test done...

from the sound of it, it just really seems like your gecko is just bored w/canned food. i suggest varying it's diet to live mealworms, crickets and an occasional wax worm. (you could even smear waxworm guts on mealies to stimulate its appetite)

my gecko (different than the one mention above who had paracites) once got bored w/being fed live mealworms all the time and just stopped eating for a month... i varied the diet w/crickets and smeared waxworm guts on mealies and he started eating again. they're funny like that. hope this helps, best wishes...

Hmm. I have a male leo that stopped eating for a while, or if he dideat it would be very little. I took him to the vet and he said that he had pinworms. (which most leos have, but to have a lot of them is bad). Well I gave him his meds and he is fine. He still doesnt eat a whole lot but every few days he will chow down. I have learned that he is a picky eatier and doesnt liked to be watched at all. Try a variety of foods. But try to get him into a vet just to rule out any BAD protzone or bacteria that might be going on with him.
Good luck
