Unusual NC E. King DOR

sjohn Sep 11, 2009 07:02 AM

This guy was found in western Surry Co. less than 35 mi. from the western edge of their range in this part of the state. The thin banding I thought was interesting..other E. Kings I have seen in the county were normal looking E. Kings but came from a much different area in the southern part of the county. This is the first E. King I have seen in this remote part of the county.

thanks, scott. fits right in to a conversation we're having six threads below this one, about the albino "eastern" kings, re: range maps, intergrade characteristics showing up in the middle of "pure" zones, and vice versa. Your pic came at a perfect time (except for the poor snake, of course).

I was reading that thread and I was thinking the same thing when I found this guy that it fits right in that discussion. I plan to keep searching the area for more specimens...this DOR was a heartbreaker.

That is very interesting!,...too bad that had happened though.

Thanks for sharing the pic!
