Legal pure Indian Pythons back in Ohio!

Crocodilepaul Sep 11, 2009 12:33 PM

Greetings All,

Indian Rock Pythons (Python molurus molurus) are back!

Under my CBW permit I have brought into the state of Ohio, 1.1 pair of northern Pakistan locality Indian Pythons (direct from San Diego Zoo bloodlines). I also have brought in 1.1 pair of southern India locality (direct from Bill L. at Molurusx3). The locality types show slight differences in pattern and color.

All snakes are very young, but I really look forward to raising these up into adulthood, and in future years breeding both pairs. Indian pythons are by far the best of the large constrictor pythons. A classic.

Pictures will be posted in the future.

Truly,

the southern Indian specimens have probably the nicest coloration and patterns of all the mainland molurus. They and the Pakistan form look fairly similar as neonates, but will diverge considerably as they mature. Bill has some outstanding adults and these neos show it. Thanks,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Yes, both localities are very nice, I had taken several pictures but they were deleted upon transfer to the computer. Soon will be taking several more photo's to upload.

The San Diego animals came directly from the zoo, the parents are on display. The female is about a year old and 3 feet while the male is only 2 months old (northern Pakistan).

Both of molurus x3, (southern India) are doing very well, one has a super light head. I am surprised at how large Indian Python hatchlings are compared to Burmese hatchlings.

Thanks for the observation as I don't have much information on Indian molurus hatchling lengths, but I have found that Sri Lanka molurus have smaller hatchlings than the other molurus. Even though the eggs are about the same size, Sri Lanka hatchlings are about 20% smaller than those of burmese pythons.
