Pair of Crystals !

anthony james mc Sep 12, 2009 02:28 PM

These just hatched a couple hours ago. I think once they shed they will look even better!

Here's one of my low grade pics for you to laugh over!

Still neat little critters even if I can't take decent pics!

Thanks for a GREAT snake Tom and Jon!

hey anthony..... awsome looking snakes! are those mojave crystals or something a little different? our pair were from mojaves were really yellow even the straight crystal (not the pastel), are your just darker or do they get the yellow with age or something extra in there?? either way awsome looking snake and i would love to talk with ya about an extra one of those mystic potions, i think thats what you called those amazing purple looking guys!

Well I don't really think they are that dark at all in person ,my pics never turn out like I want them to anyway, lol! These are just out and haven't obviously shed yet so the color isn't quite as true as it will be once they shed (Pieds , Albinos and alot of stuff doesn't look it's best right out of the egg so I would bet these are the same way). I am really pleased with the Crystals, especially considering their Super Special sire landed here less than a year ago at 240 grms . He ate like a pig for me and got up to 600 grms before I even tried him. I took it really easy on him and he never fully kicked off feed while he was breeding this Mojave mother. I didn't want anything to happen to him breeding him young so he had a real easy first season .

Feel free to call me if you have questions about the Potions!

so a crystal is a mojave and special?
a mystic potion is a mojave and ????

anthony james mc Sep 12, 2009 10:03 PM

Hence the name a Mystic Potion is simply a Mystic x Mojave in the Super form. A Potion like a Crystal will not make normals when bred out to even a normal , in both cases those Supers make babies that are either Mojaves or the other gene depending on if your talking about a Crystal or a Potion the "other gene" will either be a Mystic from the Potion or a "Special" from the Crystal. Isn't really that hard to understand how this unfolds if you think about it a little. These designers are Blue Eyed Supers just the same on paper but instead are using a couple different genes. It's just that because these Supers show color and patterns instead of just being another white snake, and I think that throws some folks off a little! Just remember that genetically speaking both a Crystal and a Potion will breed out the same way as a BEL Mojave Lesser would, just substitute either the Mystic or the Special gene in place of where the Lesser gene would be on a BEL Lesser Mojave!

Anthony, did you take that pic on a ShamWOW?

Dave

PS, the snakes look great man, nice one!

anthony james mc Sep 12, 2009 10:12 PM

Maybe.... LOL!!! I thought the orange background would be cool but I think I may just have to get another pic tomorrow before they go into shed to far to photograph. Other than that, what did you think of them?

Later man,
Anthony

EmberBall Sep 13, 2009 11:13 PM

I like the Crystals, although my Tom Baker genetics dictionary has not arrived yet. I think the Crystals are one of the "10" level projects and hope to have one someday. What crosses are you planning for yours?

They are outstanding Anthony! Maybe after they shed you could post another pic so we can see them in all their glory . . . .

Big congrats!

Here you go , this shows their color alot better . I also think that because of the fact that the Super Special was produced from the original female Special that his babies will turn out as nice as any of the Crystal out there. I do think the colors set in best with some size and age on them so I don't really think it's fair to judge these alot at one day of age. I think these are like Lavender Albinos in that respect, they get better with age instead of worse with age like alot of the overrated/overpriced morphs do .

When the dust settles in the end and the pricing structure across the board levels off there are 2 main questions you have to ask yourself before deciding what morph to buy for your future crosses. First question is what does it looks like as an adult and secondly how much is it in comparison to the other investment morphs out there with the same caliber of breeding potential...

WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!!!!

Crystals are one of the FEW morphs that are better as adults than as hatchlings!!!!! Wait until they are 800 grams or so -- WOW!!!!! Congrats on that clutch Anthony.

Hers a photo I took today of an adult crystal and an adult pastel crystal. The pastel crystal has the lighter colored head.

Take care man,

Congrats! They are nice looking little snakes. I think crystals are on my "must have when funding becomes available" list.

Do they lighten up and get the yellow that I see alot to them as they age, or is there a lot of variability in the color like the potions?
