Golden corn(s) update....

BlueKing Sep 13, 2009 12:34 PM

Well, this year is NOT been kind to me... After only having three good eggs out of 23 total (two pairs), all three eggs didn't make it. It is disappointing, and I sure wished for better results....
Temps were good, humidity perfect, (hatched thousands of other eggs for the past 28 years with great results), and still learning....!? At least I know all my males and females WILL be ready next year (sizewise).... I will have more, three foot (het-gold) males and females available, so that should help the odds (fertility-wise).
I have a feeling next year WILL be better for sure!!!!!!!!!!!

hang in there buddy, this is the one that we've all been waiting for, we're all pullin for ya! The GBK's are doin' great! I know how you feel, still tryin' to pull the stripe out of the meahlmorrim down here, lost the female and her eggs this year, so we have to start from a locality females' eggs. Many years behind you, lol!

im sorry to hear that your few golden eggs didnt pan out, all you can do is hope that next year shows you a little more luck. thats one thing i relearn every year is that their is always trial and heartbreak and their is joy and success and just have to hope for the best but be prepared to take the worst. but with more snakes up to breeding size your chances of a little success on this project should be better.

Thanks. I do feel really good about next year... My odds are MUCH better then.

Thanks. Next year will definitely be better, at least according to the law of odds and averages! Just sucks whenever we have to wait another year, but at least things are looking much better.

Sorry to hear about your rotten luck with the corns this year. Hope next year is better, after all it can't get much worse.

And on the bright side it is good to know that you haven't gotten your head blown off.

Stay alive and keep trying, we are all rooting for you!

Thank you so much for your support....(I have been lucky and blessed so far: Just today one of my co-workers WAS injured from a mortar attack. Today is the first time anybody from my team was injured since we've been here)
I think next year will be MUCH better for the golden corns, at least if you consider the odds (more mature animals available).

Zee!,..for cryin' out loud, if it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any at ALL!..LOL!

Certainly kiddin' there just a wee bit. You yourself on the other hand are obviously doing much better than the corns did, and that is just fantastic man!.

I missed not running into you again at Daytona this year. I think about those special golden gems of yours fairly often, and seeing those personally a while back was really a special treat!

You will no doubt have better success with producing more of those next year with all the additional hets you will have joining in the game.

You just concentrate on taking care of yourself for now, and later on we can enjoy a bunch of little golden corn pics that you will certainly be proud to show-off..LOL!

Hey, I can relate to a few breeding disappointments too, the pic below is a good example of this.

later buddy!, ~Doug

Yeah, come to think of it, I HATE missing Daytona this year!!! Hope to make there again next year maybe...
As far as the Golden corns are concerned: I do think the odds will be more in my favor next year, so I'm staying motivated and patient...
About that pic: WOW SOOOOO DANG close...that sucks. That little two header looks developed all the way... Sure wish it would have made it....
I once had a Texas ratsnake that hatched with no eyes - just a head full of scales. He ate like a pig and started growing and was doing very well, until one of my adult speckled kingsnakes escaped and found his way into the ratsnake's cage....I'm sure you can figure out the rest...I was pretty mad at myself for that one!
