baby boa ate aspen

xxdean057xx Sep 13, 2009 03:22 PM

Ive been feeding a bunch of baby boas in their enclosures with a towel on top of some of the aspen. one of the babies must have pulled his pinky off of the towel and swallowed som aspen along with the pinky . i can see the chunks of aspen sticking out from the neck area and i can feel it. i tried making the boa regurge the last meal but he wont regure anything.....do you think it will pass? its the cheaper chunkier chips of aspen not the t rex style

Aww... poor guy...
I think he should be fine... keep his temperatures and humidity up so that if it is passing into his stomach he can digest it. I wouldn't handle him though, that's for sure. If you think it poked through something, definitely take him to a vet. I hope he turns out alright, that's a mighty nice mot. Good luck!

It might be OK but if you want to be sure, take him to a good reptile vet.

thanks jeff but I was going to use that as a last resort because of the costs (in a few weeks if its in the same place)......have you ever taken any of your boas in to the vet and how much did you end up spending and what was the problem? thanks

I would consider myself at last resort time for that snake. It would probably cost less than $100.

I just just stopped by a local vet that operated on reptiles and got an estimate ......around $800 and they charge by the minute . that seems a little high so Im gonna wait and see what happens, im our 65 bucks for the visit too

I was thinking about feeding it a small pinky to try to push it down so maybe it can drop a pile of aspen doodoo , what do you think?

FOR THIS REASON AS WELL AS CLEANLINESS IS WHY MYSELF AND A FEW OTHERS I KNOW ONLY USE ULINE PAPER. ALL THOSE CHIPS, ASPEN & PAPER TOWELS ETC ARE JUST PLAIN MESSY AND POTENTIALLY HARMFULL TO THE ANIMALS.

I had a baby boa swallow the paper towel I (used to) feed him on. Fortunately he passed it without damage to himself. From then on, I do not use paper towels. Nor aspen due to others who share your story, although those boas survived as well.

I feed on cardboard or tile, and I don't use aspen anymore.

well its my fault for being cheap and buying the chipped style aspen...I still rather use aspen but the better shredded t-rex style.
