canyon point campground near payson ,az

Hey everyone..well I FINALY get to take a vacation and we are going to goto canyon point campground.on the 22nd through 25th...its near payson az,
anyone know is there any goodies to find out there?..most of our day time will be trout and smallie fishing but night time?...dont want any spot unless your offering, just an idea if im going to be wasteing my time looking or not...thanks ahead of time...

I hike this area often. It is a great place for snakes and lizards. But this time of year it is really starting to cool off. This area is notorious for rattlers. They are a very common sight. Striped Whipsnakes are also frequently encountered. From my experience I would expect to see the following this time of year:

Rattlesnakes - Rock ledges by the water mid morning.
Whipsnakes - mid afternoon in the grassy meadows (especially on the edges).
Garter snakes - by the water.

Your best bet would be flipping rocks for hatchlings early in the morning. Lizards will be out in force as usual. So per your inquiry, no you would not be wasting your time.
