baby red tail not using hides

kingsriverkid Sep 13, 2009 07:55 PM

Just curious if this is normal. I have a very basic setup because hes new. I have perfect temps and a couple of plastic flowerpot water trays turned upside down with holes in the side for hide boxes. one on the hot side and one on the cool side. He has eaten once. (only had him a week). the thing is I have never seen him use his hide boxes. Im new to boas but not new to snakes and I have never encountered a snake to not use a hide of some kind at least some of the time. any ideas??? or is this normal???

The snake will find it's way into the hides when it is used to it's new environment. I use tupperware type containers with the lids on and a hole cut out of the side. Inside of the containers I use slightly moist cypress mulch. All my Boas spend lots of time in the hides.

Good luck.
