What is a Sunglow...

ChrisErica Sep 14, 2009 09:35 AM

I recently purchased a sunglow bearded dragon. The seller told me they'll be bright orange as adults. If anyone has any pictures of what an adult would look like it would be greatly appreciated.

You never know what an adult will look like. I've had babies I swore were normals that grew up to be very pretty and I've had pretty babies lose their stunning colors as they aged. Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you'll get. lol.

Ok thanks. I just can't find a sunglow on any of the bearded dragon sites. I though maybe there was another name for it.

Just curious, who was the breeder,he should know...I've seen many "new"names pop up[for beardies] in the last 16 years..anyone can give a group of dragons a name that they come up with...so much variation in color pattern and with females producing huge amounts of babies every year, people have come up with new names.

I've never heard the term used with Beardies.

I picked it up at the White Plains Reptile Show in NY. The breeder is 'BeegerBoxes.com'. The breeder was very knowledgeable and helpful. I'm not familiar with bearded morphs and never heard of a sunglow. Not that it really matters because i'm very happy with him, I was just curious what it might look like as an adult. Here is another picture. I couldn't really capture the orange and purple sides.

Best to get it to a reptile vet..if you can't,gently clean[if it has dirt, sand]with lukewarm water. You can apply an anti-biotic ointment daily using a q-tip and keep it on newspaper or paper towels.I have had good success using unpasteurized honey to treat wounds..it's a natural anti-bacterial AND anti-biotic.If you google medicinal honey you will see a write-up on use in animals with quicker healing than other ointments. If you do use it,warm it to soften it,mix with a tiny amount of warm water use a q-tip.It really works!!Like I said though, best to see a reptile vet...if you can.Hope he recovers...they usually do if they're healthy to begin with.

I use neosporin. A picture would be helpful. A vet visit would be a good idea too.

Usually Sunglows refer to Leopard Geckos. Not saying you got jipped, but you definitely did not purchase a Sunglow beardie.

For you to say that I "definitely did not purchase a sunglow", then that means you know what a sunglow is. So tell us, what is a sunglow?

moonstone Sep 15, 2009 09:47 AM

At the bottom of the page in this link is a pic of a sunglow corn. The is no black pigment. Your little guy has black pigment in his skin. Breeders can call their babies anything they want. It looks like a normal with red/orange stripes. Enjoy him no matter what he is.

Hey thanks...whatever he is, he's awesome!

Patrick562 Sep 15, 2009 08:13 PM

What I meant was that I don't believe a "Sunglow" Bearded Dragon has ever been hatched. But, there are Sunglow Leopard Geckos, and as the other person has mentioned, Sunglow Corns.

And some breeder arbitrarily chose the name "Sunglow" for both the corns and the leos and now for bearded dragons. Morph names are not scientific classifications and have no corrolation at all to each other.

FWIW, the classic usage of the name sunglow is for "hypo" albino boas or albino corns without any white.

In either case sunglow always has albino mixed in. As yours is clearly not albino, but simply a pretty red dragon, the name "sunglow" as it applies to your animal is simply a name the seller made up hoping to get someone to pay a few extra dollars for it. Hope you did not!

Enjoy your pretty new pet.
