can someone give me the RETF lesson 101

ThomasHarrison Sep 16, 2003 07:42 PM

I'm a snake person by hobby so I don't know much about red eye tree frogs.

I have a 20 gal, spray it each day. Also the lid is glass to contain moisture.
I offered crickets but he/she showed no interest. How long is too long without eating?

The temps are around 77-78 degrees.

I'll post pics soon.

You may want to switch the lid to a screen top. How old is the RE? And how long have you had it? If you haven't had it long it could be still in the adjustment period and that's why it isn't eating yet. Try offering just a couple crix each night but other wise make sure that the enclosure is in a low traffic area and remove any uneaten food. Movements of the crix can cause a little stress to a froggie who's still trying to get used to its new home.

I wouldn't let it go more than 5 days without eating. If it still doesn't show interest you may want to take a fecal to a vet to be checked for parasites.

Day temps range 78-85 and evening temps 70-75. Make sure you turn the lights off at night as well, sometimes having a light on keeps them from eating. It's another stress thing.

I hope it eats for you soon!

Good Luck!

Well, they usually won't eat in front of you, but I don't know if you've left crickets overnight?

Also, while they need high humidity, it's absolutely crucial for them to have a screen top. RETFs need a lot of air circulation, but I don't think that would cause these problems... that's just a long-term issue
