Green Tree Monitors?

sdi Sep 15, 2009 09:31 AM

Hello - I have been viewing a lot of photos and videos of Green tree monitors over the last couple years. I have noticed that most of the photos of babies I come across have a lot of black. Some have an appearance of more of a black background with green spots like the Varanus Kordensis. Most of the adults I have come across are primarily green with at most a couple of "V" shaped black marks on the neck.

My question is do the "high black" green trees turn more green as they age? Or is the "high green" phase just less common now?

Also, I know of a few people who are working with the green trees or have in the past, as well as a couple importers, but if anyone has a good source for information or breeders etc. could you please pass it on.

Feel free to email me as well.

Thanks!!!

Steve

Hello,
Tom and Patty down in South FL are who you want to get with about tree monitors. I took the time to visit his facility which is built on acreage by Florida City. Very nice set ups and Tom, Patty and Bruce(turtle expert) are extremely friendly and helpful(knowledgeable goes without saying!). Best to you- Mike S

I have emailed Tom a few times now. Mike S, if you are Mike Stefani, sorry if I misspelled that, I have been following your experience that you put on line for years now. Gret info!

Thanks again and I will keep those who are interested posted on my progress.

A guy by the name Danny Gorman wrote an article in reptiles magazine some years ago, back then he was the only consistant breeder of GTM and kordensis. Back in those days kordensis was called fish net pattern GTM and were not classified as they are now. CB GTM usually are more blue in color then the WC green adults you see on the market. If you contact reptiles magazine Im sure you can order the issue on GTM breeding written probably 8-10 yrs ago. Danny now lives in Indo and was trying to farm GTM to ship here for the trade last I heard. Tom Crutchfield keeps GTM outdoors so it will be interesting to see how his offspring color out with natural sun.

For me this is great information. Color is important to me. I have seen them varying from kind of a drab green, to leaf green to a blue green similar to the color of the ocean.

Thanks for suggesting TC. I am waiting to see what happens with his offspring and the color potential makes it that much more exciting to me. I will see if I can get that copy of Reptiles magazine as well.

Thanks again for your response!
