I definitely think the woman who found the snake either had a bad translator or is seriously superstitious. The photo, while not the best, can potentially be real. I am just trying to wrap my head around the genetics and how such a thing could come about...
I trust the UK tribune, but not whatever news source they may have gotten the story from in China.

I would like to see how this pans out and if some sort of parasitic lizard gets into snake eggs and transforms the babies :P

There's an excellent book called "Your Inner Fish" that covers stuff like this. I highly recommend it.

I have no doubt some rare genetic problem could cause a snake to have some type of rudimentary limb, but imo this is either a case of a doctored photo or an eaten lizard's leg poking through the skin.

Looks like the front arm of a lizard that was eaten and then somehow broke through the side. Maybe even in her effort to kill the bad snake.

yeah i think to me it looks more like a lizard decided that the belly of a snake wasnt the best place to be and tried to do something about it
