exciting excitement

skippy Sep 16, 2003 08:41 PM

I was worried about my crucigera for a while. First he stopped climbing as much. Then his color went very dark. Next he turned very pale green, almost gray.

Well. Today I noticed that he has some shed comming off of his tail. His new color looks way better than ever before! I'm very excited for the shed to be over.

He's still a little guy, so this is his first shed. What is important to ensure a successful shed?

I use a Fogger for 2 hours at night when she is in shed to keep the humidity up, I also water the plants (I do not Squirt/mist anymore)
and it takes WEEKS, the tail and legs go, then the head, then the body. Each with about a week in between (so far for my Erowen).
but yeah, the color does shift WAY up then down, read the posts lower down from me
I try to post every few days to keep a running log of what goes on from day to day

The post on the humidity is correct. I couldn't add anything to it as I feel it is a very complete answer. The only think I could add is that although it may take weeks for a larger MHD to shed completely the smaller ones, 2-3" body length, may sometimes shed much more quickly. I don't know if its the reduced body surface or what but once the old skin starts to crack it goes more quickly than the larger ones. I'd say 2 weeks at the tops.

Glad to hear all is well

Erowen is a little harder to shed, it is most likely due to the Parasites
