Scott and I headed down to Brazoria to do some road cruising for whatever we could find from about 3:30 to 7:30. Of course temps were extremely high but what can you do...First finds were the two gators we inadvertently spotted when someone saw something in the water and one surfaced. The first one was about 6-8 feet while the second was probably 3 ft. After being covered by horse flies and mosquitoes (and believe me...by the end of the day I was wishing we would have more mosquitoes because those horse flies are killers!), we moved on down the road and found a pretty fresh DOR Nerodia erythrogaster falvigaster. A snake that was about 1.5 or 2 was basking on the shoulder, but it got away when I tried to jump out and grab it. At a small roadside pool (with green water and mud that smelled heavily of methane) we found 2 blotched waters, one about 1.5 ft, the other over 3. We found a not so fresh DOR that we could not even identify...we suspected Nerodia at first but the scales were not keeled. We then thought hognose but that was ruled out due to the shape of the jaw...not very hog-like at all. We drove some dirt roads then and found some more alligators, at least 3. After flipping some stray boards, I pulled onto to shoulder to look at something. It was a nice little AOR threetoed box. We headed back then. In one spot we found 2 DOR missip. green waters, one of the species I wish to find alive. The first was a probably gravid female, very freshly hit, and was over 4 ft long. The other was about 2 ft. They were found less than 4 ft from each other. That pretty much wrapped up the day. We will be heading down there tomorrow morning so we should have some better luck. Andy
