A Question about the flu and such ...

RayT3 Sep 16, 2009 02:01 PM

So I went to the doctor today and I have the flu. Swine? Who knows, they're treating it all the same around here.

Excuse my ignorance, but how likely are my snakes to get sick from me? I feed my Florida in another enclosure than where he lives. What is the danger in handling him? I can get his rats there without actually touching them. If I dissenfect my hands will it be ok? Should I just feed him in his regular enclosure? Ot get someone else to handle him for right now?

Just wondering because he's telling me he's hungry!

I have never heard of a human passing on a virus or flu to a snake or vise-versa.

Thanks Bluerosy.
That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure!

I doubt that typical influenza can make the leap from primate to reptile but it certainly does from birds and other primates to humans sometimes. There are definitely other types of pathogens that can infect both humans and reptiles. My doctor friends Sam & Ella told me so.
