First out of the egg

mfoux Sep 17, 2009 06:32 AM

Here's my first hatch of 2009. The clutch went 95 days and started pipping yesterday morning. The first snake is out, but the other three good eggs haven't pipped yet. Think I should be worried?

Congratulations!! don't worry...if there are good snakes in there they will pip in due time. Sometimes there are several days between the first and last to pip in some of my larger clutches.

Very nice!,......

That is a pretty long time, I assume you had temps in the mid to low seventies at least for them to go that long, although this isn't always necessarily the case.

Anyway, I don't bother carefully slicing a "window" until the second or third day from the first pip. Then after that I usually go ahead and do it. Just be very careful and make sure you cut the shell ONLY, and nothing else..LOL!

again,....looks like the long outcome was well worth it, buddy!

Thanks Doug.
Yes, they started out in the mid seventies for the first 60 days or so. I increased the ambient temp slightly and they settled around 80 for the last 35 days.
