Babies Arrived

run26neys Sep 17, 2009 11:29 PM

After a wait that seemed to take forever – I have baby snakes. The litter was 15 live, and no stillborn’s. I was out of town yesterday when they were born, so I am unsure if there were any slugs. All seem to be doing well, and are quite active. I tried to put them all in a sweater box for a picture of all of the babies, but once I got about half in the box the ones in the box kept coming out when I would try to put more in.

Here are a couple of the babies:

Once again the x-ray pic that I think is really neat:

Thanks!

I tried to sort through them last night after taking the couple of pictures, but they all started to look alike. One seems to have a lot more contrast than the rest, so it will be interesting to see them after they shed. I will get them out today to get them used to being handled - or should I say so I get used to getting bit.....

I willprobably wait until they shed to take too many more pics, as they seem to want to wander quite quickly.

Congratulations on the litter, the two pictured are really nice! So which one are you going to name "X-Ray"?

run26neys Sep 18, 2009 09:39 AM

It would be really neat if there was a way tofigure out which baby is which in the x-ray.

Mike,
...Congratulations!! That is a very nice litter. Was this a first litter for the mother? How big and how old is she?

Yes first litter for the mother. She is a possible het I picked up from Mike Lockwood, but none of the babies look light enough to be hypos so she may not be a het (another breeding will be done to be certain). She came out of his late litter of 2006 that had 3 babies, with her brother being what Mike feels is the most out-crossed hypo. She was breed by a HET that was produced by Exotics by Nature in 2006.

Mother seems to be doing quite well. How long after giving birth do you wait to offer food?

For full term no yolk babies, you can offer as soon as you like. No big deal if they refuse. Some litters eat right away, some after first shed, others at about a week old. Preemie litters can take several weeks toget started.

LOL, it can be quite difficult to get them all in one sweater box and sven more so if they've had some time to slither around. Remember this pic?

Was all I could to keep them in and get a pic......
