Ackies Food/Calcium ?

BuckShot0613 Sep 19, 2009 06:23 PM

My trio of yellow ackies are finally settled and eating like hogs. They consistantly eat about 5-8 crickets a day (about the size of their heads) that are dusted with rep-cal with vit D3.

I have read that I should be feeding these little guys until they simply no longer are interested in food. I have been offering food about 3x a day. I guess what I'm trying to ask is can juvenile ackies get fat or do they simply utilize the food to grow rapidly? Also, I am gutloading the crix with total bites and dusting them every feeding. I notice some people are dusting every other feeding, can they get too much calcium?

From my experiance, Ackie hatchlings do not get fat. They eat and eat and eat then become adults then can sometimes become fat. Really that seems to be more often a problem related to other factors I would assume.

Mine eat alot and alot I have yet to have an ackie that needs a treadmill. I don't use supplements so I won't comment on them.

Goodluck,
Mike

I want to know how much calcium these lizards get in the wild. They have survived without us providing supplements for them.
