King Snake won't Eat, how long do I wait

ReversingTime Sep 19, 2009 08:47 PM

Hey guys, I've had my King Snake for about a week now and I thought I would try and feed her tonight, I went and bought two baby fuzzies (that's all the store had today.) Well, I took her out of her cage and put her into another container/box for her to eat (the previous owner told me they fed her in her cage, which I was to unhappy about.) Well as it goes, she refused to eat the fuzzy and was kind of nervous about it (she's 3 1/2 ft long so the fuzzy was not to big for her.) So I put her back in her cage. Now my question, how long do I wait again to try and feed her? Should I wait a day or two or a week? I went ahead and put the fuzzies in the freezer.

First off relax, the snake is 3.5' long so it must have eaten somthing..

Is it possible tht the snake is in shed? If not what was the snake eating for the last owner? If you can find out that would be the first thing you should try to feed.. Also, if the snake is used to feeding in the cage, then feed the snake in the cage. I feed every snake in my collection in the cage and have no problems and i know that several people here do the same and have no issues.

Good Luck!

Ditto!,...some of my most voracious feeder's won't eat at all outside their enclosure. It can throw them ALL out'a whack when they've been used to feeding in their cages all their lives.

Your snake is not in any danger of digesting substrate, unless you have it on large lava rocks or something! J/K, eh? You could try feeding overnight, since it will be a thawed rodent next time. Relax, a snake that size could go a while if it felt like it. Let it settle in another week and you should see a hungry snake. Was it on f/t before or live? What kind of snake is it? Post a pic, it is a requisite for help from the forum, LOL!!!
