New rat food idea.

Today I got some coupons in the mail from Purina. One was for a free bag of Omolene horse chow (It's a sweet feed), well I went and got it and my rats went nuts! They love it.
It's 16% protein and smells great, full of mollasses and oats and other horsey yummies.
The regular price for a 50lb bag is only $10.00 too.
One more thing for my rodetial friends to enjoy.
Yeah, I know, my rats are spoiled, lol!

Later,
Jen

you want to stay away from " mollasses " products.. thats why i never suggest "wet cobb".. its coated with a molasses coating.. making it kinda sticky..

sugar for rodents isnt a good thing... and can lead to all kinds of trouble.. including liver failure among others..

id suggest it as a "treat".. but nothing i would give on a regular basis

just my 2 cents

I have been using Omelene for years with my mice and rats and it's a great feed. There are three types of Omelene and Type 3 is for lactating mares and is high in calcium and other minerals and vitamins that your snakes will appreciate.

I don't feed straight Omelene, I mix it with corn, milo, black oil sunflower seeds, and low fat cat food.

I feed a very varied diet consisting of... (but not limited to, lol)
Ranch cubes (always present, a cattle diet), whole oats, scratch grains, Layena pellets, Nutro/Iams/Pro Plan dog foods (usually large breed puppy or adult), alfalfa pellets, and cooked foods. And now the Omolene. They get bahaia (sp?) or timothy hay as well on ocassion.
And toys to chew on of course, paper towel rolls, chunks of aspen (from the shredded bedding), bones (they love bones, etc, etc, etc.....
These darn rodents have the life!
I am a firm believer that it shows, in my snakes, how I care for the rats/mice.

Later!
