NC Northern Pine Snake Pics

orchidspider Sep 20, 2009 09:16 PM

This Spring I got a great email from a former co worker, he and his wife were hiking around the Sandhills near Pageland, and they found this beauty! He didnt know what it was and sent these pics for me to id. The first one is the snake and him taken by his wife and the second was taken by him. He said it was quite docile and after looking at it, they let it go on its way. Little did they know they just happened upon the holy grail of snakes to see in the Sandhills! After reading other posts on here about NC pines, they do tend to be a lot darker. Pics of them are hard to find so hope you all enjoy them!

That's awesome!..but the snake appears very thin and the posture with him holding looks almost limp??? Did he say anything about that?

Nope, the snake was active though.

He also saw it the first or second weekend in May, so it could be still looking for food after hibernating and not as active as one might expect as a result

Thank you very much! The collection along with my orchid obsession (140 orchids, and 20 tropical plants, 6 tarantulas, 2 widows, that all live in the spare bedroom with the snakes)two freshwater planted tanks, bonsai and roses etc. outside in pots on my patio, I don't get bored. I am expecting a juvenile pair of Black Eastern Kings (L.getula nigra), Todd County KY stock from Snake Traders on Wed to round things out- Mark sent pics of the parents and they look great!

That is really a great find made by your friend and his wife. Thanks for sharing the images of them. Where the heck is RichH? He wanted to see Carolina animals in the worst way LOL!!
Speaking of Carolina animals, I see you have a pair of them listed in your signature. Photos??

Nice pic. Thanks for posting.

Think I'll start a new thread for those that would have pics of pines that were spotted in the wild. See many bulls and gophers pics but pines are not typical.
