Canned or Live??? Opinions Please

ilovemyleo Sep 16, 2003 10:46 PM

What are everybodies preferences when feeding their leos? I personally have no preference between the live and canned crickets and mealworms but my leo prefers the canned. Both have there advantages and disadvatages and I was wondering what everybody thought
Thanks so much!!

Live food is always going to be more nutritious for your leo, more cost-effective, and more controllable as far as gutloading goes.

Feeding your geckos live feeders such as crickets is not as easy as popping open a can and filling a dish but the benefits your geckos will receive from eating live gutloaded feeders far out weigh any headaches you may encounter. Besides you control what your feeders eat which in turn is what your geckos will be eating.

I go for live feeders but yet I also put some of the Leopard gecko food (that yellow can thing form petco) I put that in the bowl with the mealies so that the mealies have food in there also I figure that if the dried up food I bought from petco is ok to eat for my leo its ok for the mealies. The seem to like it too. I know the superworms eat them but heck they eat everything. None of my leos will eat canned crix or mealies though.
