Heating at night

kckump Sep 16, 2003 11:08 PM

I would like to get some feedback on how you keep your Bearded dragons at warm at night. It will soon be winter and we turn the heat down to 65 at night in our house. I think that is to cold for the Bearded Dragons.

How do you keep them warm at night?

Thanks
Ken

I use a ceramic heat emitter @ night and a bright heat lamp during the day. I adjust them according to my digital thermomiter, with this adjustable stand. (by ZooMed, it's awesome)That way you can use any bulb wattage without running the risk of frying them, and when your house is colder, lower it a bit. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the feedback. I have heard of people using under tank heater.

Wont the tank be to heavy for under tank heater?

How do You use the ceramic heater?
How hot does the ceramic heaters get?

Thanks
Ken

you can use a lower-wattage colored bulbs. i know purple doesnt bother them, it hink blue is ok too. not sure about red. they carry them at pet stores. i used to use that at night on timers, but i dont actually need it because my house only goes down to low 70s.

when I placed the base under on end of my tank (75gal) the tank slid around on the stand with too much ease (I could move it with one finger!). Basically the stand lifts one end of the tank about 16th of an inch as opposed to the whole tank sitting on its base, causing a fraction of the original friction to keep it from moving. I think a small tank would work well with the stand but not a large tank.
