two shades of orange

DMong Sep 21, 2009 05:56 PM

I'm glad these turned out like their mother, the way I was hoping they would.

Not only are they sweet extremes, and of different types(vanishing pin-bandeds, etc...) as well, but I really like the two complimenting shades of orange.

I'll get some pics of other stuff that has hatched as well later on.

~Doug

Wow Doug, congrats, that is a beauty. Its hard to pick up the differential in the organge in the pic but I remember what the adult looks like and it is really nice. Good work.

Thanks Dave,...yeah, If I took the pic where I just did of the mother, the two color's would have stood out a bit better.

Here's a regular hypo that the orange turned out a tad better on, but is still off quite a bit though. Maybe I'll put them ALL where the mom got photographed, and use just a small amount of flash, then maybe that will work better(I hope).

It sure can be tough trying to get true matching colors from pics....ARRGH!

If what we see in the pics is the real orange shade in person, that's really an awesome extreme. I bet it is even better looking in person.

Doug, would this orange shade change as the snake matures? Do the parents possess the same shade of orange?

One of the really nicest extremes I have seen so far...!

DMong Sep 21, 2009 08:44 PM

Hi Ray!,......

No, it really isn't what I wanted to get after looking at it afterwards, it's not quite what the mother is in my other pic there, but it isn't really what this pic captured either. Although it IS still a killer example of extreme hypomelanism regardless of not getting the oranges quite right.

In addition to that, the regular light hypo is WAY lighter in the dark bands than the pic shows too,...I just can't seem to win with getting the colors/shades right on..LOL!

Anyway, to answer your question, the color in the adults has stayed exactly as they were as hatchlings, which is indeed pretty cool, so I would expect the offspring to basically follow suite with that too.

thanks again!, ~Doug

Boy Doug,
That is a sweet looking Hondo. Love the color of it.

Here is an old photo of that aberrant we were talking about the other day. I need to up date the photo, he's much bigger now.

Thanks, Dell!,........

Yes, the looks of that one does have a familiar ring to it..LOL! That looks really nice too!

That's a cool mirror shot you took, it shows all the craziness on the venter. Mine have got real whacked-out bellies also.

Glad you were able to score some!

Hey, about that other post we did way down below with the fish. What kind of freakazoid bottom feeder was that one with the crazy pattern?

Doug,
The fish your talking about is just a catfish, duh. If your interested in subspecies it's called a Surubim, or Shovelnose Catfish, or Tiger Flathead (Psedoplatystoma fasciatum).
Very good eating, and I've had them eat flies for me too, not just bait. We gigged a number of them in these photos. When landed they bark at you in there discomfort, a little unsettling for me at first.

You may like this. Arraia, freshwater Stingray. I had to step on it's tail to retrive my fly from it's back. This Ray was the size of a garbage can lid.

This big dude ate half a Pirana. Double names now Doug?

LOL!,...yeah, how silly of me to have thought it was actually a "specific" type of catfish, and not just like all the others??..LOL!

>>>>"This Ray was the size of a garbage can lid."

* you must use some HUGE yellow flies then, judging from your pic..LOL!

It's funny, just the other day on TV I was watching a dude catching 100 plus lb. Red-tailed cat's!, those sucker's are tough customers!, but NOTHING compared to those giant mutant Mekong Delta Catfish of 600-700 lbs. plus.

Not much get's past YOU buddy, I was thinking the double signature( Doug Doug) would catch on here, you know, like Ray-Ray, or Joe-Joe,......hmmm,.... maybe not then

and beautiful animals. Were these pics shot indoors or out? What kind of camera? Any special setting? The shots really seem to catch the colors well.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Phil!....

They were taken indoors in the kitchen with a Canon PowerShot A540, with the "tungsten" light setting. They turned out just a smidge on the blue side, which I should have compensated a bit for afterwards, but they turned out pretty fair anyway, but it seems that colors can change slightly every single time you take a different angle, that's what gets upsetting sometimes..LOL!...oh well..

thanks again!, ~Doug

Congrats Doug,

Thats a cracking Specimen, It's a shame the technology, even nowadays don't pick up everything!

Best wishes,
Scott

DMong Sep 24, 2009 12:46 PM

Thanks Scott!,...

Yes, I'm sure I'll get some better ones later on that depict the two colors a bit better. Seems like it never happens at will, just by luck when taking bunches of different photos..LOL!

Now that is one stunning snake! Never seen anything like this for sale here..I love it!!

DMong Sep 26, 2009 11:46 AM

Thank you for the compliment!,...

Without trying to sound like I'm "tooting my own horn" here, yes, these are definitely above average hypo's and "extremes".

best regards, ~Doug
