Boiga Copulation

vegasbilly Sep 22, 2009 09:38 AM

I noticed I had 3 adult females cruising the cage during the day which is highly unusual for Mangroves, especially 3 on the same day. Got me to thinking they were looking for love?? So I introduced a big male into one of their cages and voila'! I'll be doing more introductions throughout the week. The female caught in the act ate her first suitor last year so I make sure all females are WELL fed prior to any pairings..and the fact that the male is at least a foot longer made me worry less.
Keep vigilant and watch what the snakes "tell" you I guess is what I'm trying to say.

A snake species so under thought for so many years .It is nice to see them being bred in captivity now.You would of thought they would be captive bred by the thousands by now but no.Billy you are the man thanks for the picture.Tell that black widow to go easy on her husbands it puts breeding behind for years...........LOL

Congrats on the breeding activity! Any progress on the success thus far? I just picked up 0.0.2 hatchling melatonas and 0.0.4 hatchling gemmicintas. Would be really interested in seeing what comes out of your breedings!

Nice, IMHO, the Melanota and Gemmicinta are the easiest of the family! I have 2.2 adult Melanota and 2.4 sub-adult Gemmicinta. One pair of Melanota are almost 7' now and as girthy as a Cribo! I've had no witnessed copulations w/this pair so I plan to swap males to shake things up a bit.
